John Holmes, president of Atlas Turf International, has worked in the golf and turf industry for over 30 years. He assists clients around the world with turfgrass needs for golf course and sports field projects. As a leader in the global distribution of turf, Holmes helped to revolutionize the process of washing, packaging, and shipping turfgrass stolons. Branching into seed distribution, Holmes led the global introduction of the newest seeded seashore paspalum.
Holmes holds a degree in turf management and started his career as a golf course superintendent. In this role, he helped to host both PGA Tour and USGA championship events. Continuing his career in golf course construction, Holmes was responsible for building golf courses designed by some of the industry’s top architects. He holds leadership roles with the Asian Golf Industry Federation, the Golf Course Builders Association of America, and First Tee. He is a member of Turf Producers International, Sports Turf Managers Association, and is a past president of the Sea Isle Growers Association. In 2018, Holmes was named one of the most influential leaders in golf construction and in 2020 was named an industry leader in turf innovation by Golf Inc.
